I am excited to share details about my ongoing research project in Granada, Spain, which delves into the fascinating interactions between aphids and ants.
**Research Focus:** Our study investigates the role of cuticular hydrocarbons in the mutualistic relationship between aphids and ants. Ants often mark aphids with their specific hydrocarbons, which influence how they are perceived within their community. Aphids that produce more honeydew are marked more extensively, which affects their protection level by ants and their susceptibility to predation. **Laboratory Experiments:** Our project includes two key laboratory experiments focused on analyzing and identifying the cuticular hydrocarbons of aphids. **Collaborative Efforts:** This research is conducted in collaboration with Dr. Christophe Lucas and Dr. Elfie Perdreau (IRBI – CNRS) and Dr. Francisca Ruano (Universidad de Granada). Our goal is to leverage these insights to develop innovative and environmentally friendly pest control strategies. Stay tuned for more updates as we advance our understanding of these complex ecological interactions! Comments are closed.
